Kniha oblečená i svlečená
Event description

In the past, the book was not only an important carrier of information, but also an essential medium of communication. It still holds memory, ideas, stories and facts - and at the same time shapes its readers. But what is this content dressed in? The book codex was preceded by clay tablets, ostraca, papyrus or parchment scrolls. As early as the beginning of AD, scrolls began to be cut into double sheets and inserted into each other. This gradually gave rise to the traditional book corpus - a sewn or glued bundle of leaves in a spine with a binding.
Through the craft of bookbinding, we get a glimpse into the innards of a book and discover the parts that make it up. From an artistic point of view, the exhibition will present the colourful world of historical bookbindings - Romanesque, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque or modern designs, including the technology of rich decoration.

An extraordinary opportunity to encounter original 16th-century prints. Among them will be the Historical Calendar (1590), one of the most important works of Daniel Adam of Veleslavín, or the didactic manual of Jan Češka (1579), prepared especially for the sons of William of Pernštejn, of whom he was the tutor.
