Event description

15th April - lecture The front service in the early modern period as an important part of the "labour market" (Ladislav Nekvapil)
In the past, frontline service was a very important element of the life of rural and urban population. In the 16th to 18th centuries, about half of the population completed it. Nevertheless, historians have not been very interested in it in the Czech context until recently. This lecture will present this interesting early modern phenomenon as an inherent part of the labour market of the time.

29 April - lecture From Phoenicians to Arial: The Intricate Path of Our Spelling Script (Jiří Šura)
We learn to read and write in the first grade. Is it as obvious as we think? Do we really use only spelling or do we use characters as well? And how did it happen, for example, that we have lower case and upper case letters, "writing" and "printing"? These and other questions will be the subject of a lecture by Jiří Šura, geologist at the East Bohemian Museum, on why we write the way we do.

13 May - guided tour Archaeological finds from medieval Pardubice (Jan Musil, Tomáš Zavoral)
Over the last few years, the archaeologists of the VČM have managed to document a number of interesting archaeological situations related to the earliest building development of Pardubice. Although our historic centre was largely affected by intensive construction activity, which irreversibly destroyed many finds and situations, thanks to the systematic work of archaeologists in recent years, valuable finds telling about the shape of our city in the 14th and 15th centuries have been preserved in many places. A guided tour, combined with expert commentary, will take the audience to the sites that hid these ancient secrets.

27 May - guided tour of the exhibition Weapons Tell the Story (Jan Tetřev)
Karel Podolský and Jan Tetřev, curators of the Olomouc and Pardubice Museum's weapons collections, joined forces and selected the most interesting items from their collections. The result is a large exhibition that tells not only the story of the development of firearms, but also the stories of individual exhibits. The curator of the exhibition, Jan Tetřev, will guide you through these stories.

10 June - lecture "Havet in the water and by the water" (Jan Dolanský)
Water is present in the landscape in many different forms, and where it is abundant, nature is usually teeming with life. The aquatic environment was home to the first organisms, many of which never left the water, but even many of those that left the water in the course of evolution returned to it after a time. We will use a variety of examples to show not only the diversity of aquatic and wetland animals, but also how water has shaped them and influenced their way of life.
