Traditions
Pardubice is a city with a long history and traditions that remain an important part of its identity today. Some of these traditions have become true symbols of the city and are known not only throughout the Czech Republic but often far beyond its borders.
The most iconic traditions of Pardubice are closely connected with two things: gingerbread and horses. Pardubice gingerbread has been a beloved local specialty for centuries and remains one of the most popular souvenirs visitors take home. Horses, on the other hand, are inseparably linked with the city through the famous Velká pardubická steeplechase – one of the toughest and most prestigious horse races in the world.
Both traditions have shaped the character of Pardubice for generations and continue to play an important role in the life, culture and atmosphere of the city today.
