Kriticky ohrožené jevy našich nářečí
Presents the diversity and beauty of dialects that are currently on the decline.
At the heart of the exhibition are maps that show disappearing and still living dialects in three thematic areas: the human body and health, food and cuisine, and farming and agriculture. The maps are based on dialect material collected during the nationwide dialect research in the 1960s and 1970s, which was carried out by the Dialectology Department of the Institute for the Czech Language. Accompanying comments to the maps and archival dialect texts are included.
Period photographs illustrate the atmosphere of the research at that time. The exhibition also includes educational quizzes and a picture dialect questionnaire, thanks to which you too can contribute to the preservation of our dialect heritage.
The exhibition was prepared by a team of dialectologists and geoinformaticians led by Martina Ireinova and Vít Voženílek within the project "Dialects of the Czech language interactively. Documentation and access to the disappearing linguistic heritage as an integral part of regional identities" (reg. no. DG20P02OVV029, support provider Ministry of Culture, NAKI II Programme, 2020-2022).
