About Pardubice

Welcome to Pardubice, the seat of the Pardubice Region. Pardubice is one of the most beautiful cities in East Bohemia. It lies at the confluence of the Elbe and Chrudimka rivers. Pardubice is located approximately at the 50th degree of north latitude, which is further north than, for example, Ostrava. In North America, this latitude corresponds, for example, to Vancouver and Winnipeg in Canada. Pardubice is very well connected by rail and is a transport hub. The distance from Prague is only 104 km. Another advantage is the presence of an international airport with mixed traffic.

Culture and sport are inseparable from the life of contemporary Pardubice. The University of Pardubice is located here, the East Bohemian Museum, the East Bohemian Gallery, the Chamber Philharmonic and the East Bohemian Theatre. The rock club Žlutý pes (Yellow Dog) is famous among the youth, and the city's open culture scene has already earned its name. In addition to the programmes of the permanent cultural institutions, many sporting events, including international events, are held in the city every year.

In sport, Pardubice is associated with horse racing, especially the Velká pardubická (Great Pardubice Steeplechase), which has been regularly run here since 1874. Other traditional sporting events include the junior tennis championship, the Golden Helmet and the international chess tournament Czech open.

The dense network of cycle routes and cycle paths that weaves through the city and its surroundings, the water fun area in Cihelna and the indoor swimming pool with an outdoor water area are proof that Pardubice thinks about the general public in the field of sport. Pardubice is also a city of greenery. Vegetation grows into the city along both rivers, there are three forest complexes around the perimeter of Pardubice and well-kept parks in the middle of the city. There are currently 1400 plant species in the city!
