Prohlídka Pernštejnské truhly
For centuries, no one knew that there was a treasury hidden in the underground of Pardubice Castle. The massive three and a half metre long and one metre wide chest made of roughly hewn timbers nailed with iron bands was discovered in a small cellar under the chateau chapel by the castle caretaker only in the 19th century. It has survived to the present day not only thanks to the stable climate, but above all because it has not been able to leave the cellar since the time of William of Pernštejn due to its size. The chest was used as a vault for the most important documents, contracts, gold and valuables. It was sized for hundreds of kilograms of gold and silver. It is accessed via the chateau chapel down a narrow spiral staircase and through underground passages via several solid oak doors with massive locks. The chest itself is secured by bolts and mechanical locks. Today it is the only surviving part of the castle's late Gothic furnishings. Its conservation was completed in 2018.
The capacity of the tour is limited to 10 people and reservations are required.
