The year is 1889. It’s nighttime at the Dagmar Theater in Copenhagen. August Strindberg is rehearsing a new play. He has cast his wife—whom he is in the process of divorcing—and her lover in the lead roles. To make matters worse, an actor who is convinced he is the best in Denmark is prowling the stage. The rehearsal quickly turns into a whirlwind of grievances, insecurities, and accusations. Hysterical, cruel, and ridiculous. How many beers will be downed during a single night of rehearsals? And is it even possible to make it to the premiere amid all this chaos? A brutal and scathingly funny dissection of the collective madness known as theater.

This production was created as a final acting project by third-year acting students at the KČD DAMU. We are always happy to invite DAMU students to the festival. In 2019, they performed *A Midsummer Night’s Dream* here. In subsequent years, we also hosted Ductus Deferens, a troupe that originated at DAMU and whose members now perform at leading Czech theaters. This year, we are introducing the next generation of actors. Young people just starting out on their journey. Full of energy, talent, and dedication. We enjoy discovering future stars even before the major theaters do. Come cheer them on with us.
