Come with us to the period of the Heydrichiad in Pardubice. You will get to know the local conditions and the last journey of Alfred Bartos, the commander of the Silver A paratroop, a foreign resistance organization during World War II.

The trail offers Circuit I and Circuit II, which will take you to the Zámeček Memorial, the site of a former Nazi execution ground, or to the Larisch Villa, which was occupied by the Nazi riot police during the Heydrichiad.

Other educational trails in Pardubice

In Pardubice you can also find smaller nature trails, for example educational trail Srch, which introduces you to the surrounding nature at several stations. The trail is recommended especially for families with children. If you find the trail really short, you can extend your trip and look all the way to the Baroch Nature Reserve, an exceptional ornithological site with grazing for wild horses and buffalo. It is best to visit the site in dry weather or with your boots on.

You can also find a short Bee Nature Trail about the life of bees.

Educational trails around Pardubice

A beautiful location for walks and trips can be found in Lázně Bohdaneč and its surroundings.

Here you can follow the educational trail Gočárův okruh, which will take you through the work of the famous architect of East Bohemia, Josef Gočár. The trail also leads past the town hall, church, main square or cemetery. Along the way you will not miss the beautiful spa pavilion, Kuttner and Koutník chapels, Tiller's seat, Gočár's water tank and the functionalist villa.

Nature enthusiasts will surely love to follow the trails around the Bohdaneč ponds - educational trail Pernštejnské ponds and educational trail Bohdanečský pond and Matka pond, where you must not miss a visit to the ornithological observatory. You can get off the trail between Lower and New Zabran Pond to see Major Aubrecht's footbridge.

Both nature trails with ponds are connected by the Pernštejnská alley.

Tips for trips

The town itself and its surrounding area provides a generous number of places to walk and hike.

The Elbe and the Chrudimka

Not surprisingly, the town lies at the confluence of two beautiful rivers, the Elbe and the Chrudimka. Their banks are largely natural and provide an oasis of calm in relatively close proximity to the city centre. You only need to step out of the city and into the countryside. Do not miss the confluence, which is beautiful in every season.

Nemošická hillside

On the southeastern edge of Pardubice you will find a narrow strip of the Nemošická stráň natural monument. It is a hillside above the Chrudimka River. We highly recommend a visit at the turn of April and May, when the bear garlic blooms, because that is when you will find yourself in a fairy tale.

You can also visit the nearby locality of Na Podkově, a blind arm of the Chrudimka River.

Kunětická hora

One of the most popular trips from Pardubice is the trip to Kunětická hora castle. It is about 7 km from the centre and there is both a green (via Brozany and Ráby, limited during the construction of the bypass) and a red (via Počaply and Kunětice) hiking trail. In addition, you can also get there by the cycle path along the Elbe.

In the warmer months, we recommend going through Kunětice for its excellent ice cream, which is classified as a Regional Food of the Pardubice Region.

Below the castle you can have a snack in the restaurant and walk past the animal enclosures. Even when the castle is in hibernation, you can go just below the gates and enjoy the views of the surrounding countryside. Children will enjoy the nearby Gingerbread House (reservations recommended).

Baroch Nature Reserve

The overgrown pond and its flora and fauna can be found near the villages of Srch or Hrobice. There is also a yellow hiking trail from Stéblová to Kunětická hora.

You can meet common and rare bird species here, it is an important ornithological site. Thanks to the grazing reserve, you can also meet other animals, such as buffalo or wild horses.

A visit is recommended for anyone, but more so in dry weather.

Meandry Struha Natural Monument

The village of Lepějovice used to stand near the village of Valy u Přelouče, which disappeared during the Thirty Years' War. Just behind it you will find the beautifully meandering Struha stream. In the surroundings you will also find riparian vegetation and floodplain forest.

Natural monument Černý Nadýmač

At the Buňkov pond is the beginning of the Výrovo circuit, which will take you to the Černý Nadýmač pond. Today the pond is used for fish breeding and irrigation of the surrounding area. Although there are many streams along the circuit, there are also wheelchair accessible parts suitable for wheelchair users and mothers with strollers.

Choltice, Svojšice, Raškovice quarries

Near Heřmanov Městec is the village of Choltice with a chateau and a chateau park and the chapel of St. Romedius. In the castle park you can play disc golf.

Further along the red road you will reach the Gothic ruins of the 14th century fortress Svojšice.

Follow the red trail to Horní Raškovice, where the Raškovice quarries educational trail and the Barborka lookout tower await you.
