Sarandë, Albania
Sarandë is located in Albania, in the Vlora County at the southernmost part of the country, on the coast of the Ionian Sea. It lies approximately 280 km south of the capital, Tirana, and 35 km north of the Konispol border crossing with Greece.
In recent years, Sarandë has been transforming into a dynamically developing city with growing international significance. Owing to its location opposite the Greek island of Corfu, it maintains strong ties to international tourism and cross-border cooperation. The local port provides regular connections, making Sarandë an important transportation and commercial hub within the region.
The city and its surroundings offer an exceptionally diverse combination of natural and cultural attractions. Just a few kilometers from Sarandë lies the unique archaeological site of Butrint, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that documents thousands of years of Mediterranean civilization. This rich historical context gives the entire region a strong identity and makes it attractive not only for tourists but also for educational and cultural projects. Another natural gem is Syri i Kaltër, commonly known as the Blue Eye, a fascinating karst spring with crystal-clear water that ranks among the most visited attractions in Albania.
The coastline around Sarandë is lined with beaches featuring crystal-clear water and dramatic mountain scenery, creating ideal conditions for sustainable tourism. In particular, the beaches in the Ksamil area are among the most beautiful that southern Albania has to offer – and they significantly enhance the overall attractiveness of the Sarandë region.
Ksamil is located just a 15-minute drive from Sarandë and is known for its white sandy beaches and unusually turquoise waters of the Ionian Sea. Unlike many other parts of the Albanian coast, where pebbles dominate, here you will find fine sand and a gentle entry into the sea, making it ideal both for families with children and for leisure tourism.
A typical feature of Ksamil is also the small islands located just off the coast, which can be reached by swimming or by pedal boat. This scenery is often compared to the Caribbean, making it a very strong marketing asset for the entire region.
